Carbonaceous material that is present in a recovery circuit can cause deleterious preg robbing and thus drop recoveries. Measurement of carbonaceous material can provide information that is useful in preventing this.
AuTec uses multiple methods for the detection and measurement of carbonaceous material using scanning electron microscopy and acetonitrile elution. Preparation of samples using carnauba wax as a mounting medium is one method of enabling detection of carbon using SEM. This method provides a background material that is distinguishable from carbon using a backscatter electron detector, which is normally not possible when using standard mounting epoxy.
Other methods are available depending on the type of material to be examined.
